Barbara E. Mauzy, a prolific author of antique collecting books, explores the historical relationship between African- and Anglo-Saxon-Americans
by focusing on the use of Black images in products that are now collected or hated depending upon one’s perspective. She will have on hand examples of African-Americana, including dolls, kitchenware, books and product packages, which were based on preconceived ideas and prejudices. Come learn a bit about Mammy, the Cream of Wheat Chef, Aunt Jemima, and more.
The book African-Americana will be for sale, and $5 of each book purchased will be donated to the Friends of the Library. Preregister.
