Tai Chi for You

Tai Chi is easy to learn and quickly delivers health benefits like lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety, improved balance and flexibility, and clarity of mind.

The "Tai Chi For You" series has been made possible thanks to a generous donation to the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library System, in the memory of Rachel Mick, the Palm Beach County Library System’s founding CHIS Coordinator. Rachel was recognized at local, state and national levels for her work as a Consumer Health Librarian. She passed away February 2016 following a three-year battle with breast cancer.

Back-to-School

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela

It's time for our kids to load up their backpacks with school supplies, put on their new clothes, and head back to school. It can be a hard transition going from the freedom of summer back to the responsibility of being a full-time student.

However, there are activities throughout the county to help your child say farewell to summer and prepare for the coming school year. Don't miss these great activities as we head back to school.

Get Ready for School Using Online Tools

It is that time of year when we go to the store to stock up on school supplies and prepare for the first day of school. The Library can help you and your child prepare for the big day.

You can stop in at one of our branches or you can join other savvy library members and access our convenient electronic resources from home.

Students can brush up on their skills with LearningExpress. This e-resource has math, reading and writing resources for elementary, middle and high school students. There is also a section for college bound students to help them prepare for the ACT and SAT tests, and to get help writing their college admissions essay. High school students can also find resources to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT test and AP exams.

Tutor.com/Live Homework Help offers real tutors online who can help you with your math, science, English and social studies homework. Work out your algebra problems with a math expert, or send your report to an English expert to help with spelling, grammar or sentence structure. In college, or out of school? There are experts standing by to help you with calculus, or even writing résumés and cover letters.

Students working on research projects will find news and journal articles, and facts and figures, using online resources including Research in Context, World Almanac for Kids, Biography in Context, and InfoTrac General OneFile. Try these from home, or ask your librarian for more information about finding just the information you need to write a report, or prepare for a debate topic.

Quickbyte: EasyBib

Writing a school paper can be a lot of work. You think you’ve finished but now you have to create the bibliography page! Does this teacher or professor want APA or MLA? What is the difference anyway? You can gather all the books and start flipping through the pages to find the information you need or you can use EasyBib. This app will help you create your bibliography in no time.

Start by choosing your citation style. Once selected you can choose a book, journal, magazine or newspaper. Use the search bar or scan a barcode on your book to find your resource. The app will gather all the information for you and create a bibliography entry. You can even make edits to the information, including indicating that it's an e-book or online database. Once all your citations are ready to go, you can simply email yourself the list.

EasyBib is available on Android and iOS.
